Registered Nurse - Community Living Center Summary

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) – a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program approval – award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application.

• English language proficiency – basic written and spoken English.
• Graduated from a professional nursing school accredited by ACEN or CCNE, or completing an approved bridge program toward a Bachelor’s degree.
• Current, full‑active, unrestricted state or territory license in the United States.
• Eligible for the EDRP and has a valid application within four months of appointment.
• Physical requirements include moderate lifting, carrying, and repetitive bending; vision and hearing standards must be met.

• Provide comprehensive nursing care to Veterans in a long‑term care, rehabilitation, or hospice setting.
• Perform initial and ongoing assessments – physical, emotional, and psychosocial.
• Develop, implement, and update individualized care plans in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team.
• Administer medications and treatments accurately and safely.
• Monitor and document vital signs, symptoms, and patient progress in the electronic health record (EHR).
• Respond promptly to changes in patient condition, initiating appropriate interventions and notifying providers.
• Support activities of daily living (ADLs) and promote independence and dignity for residents.
• Provide end‑of‑life care and emotional support to Veterans and families in hospice situations.
• Educate Veterans and families on health conditions, medications, and care plans.
• Maintain infection control standards and ensure a safe environment for residents and staff.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives and adhere to VA performance measures.
• Collaborate with physicians, therapists, social workers, and other team members to optimize Veteran outcomes.
• Advocate for Veterans, ensuring rights and preferences are respected.
