General PurposePerform a variety of skilled and unskilled tasks in the custodial care and maintenance of City buildings and surrounding grounds. Work is performed independently and as part of a team. Tasks are completed with general guidelines and require some independent judgment. Contribute to the City’s vision, mission, and goals in the performance of all job duties.

- Change light bulbs and fluorescent tubes.
- Sweep, vacuum, mop, dust, shampoo, steam clean, strip, wax, polish, and buff floors, carpets, staircases, and furniture, etc.
- Empty garbage and recycling containers and reline containers with liners.
- Clean and sanitize restrooms and replenish supplies; clean spills; clean and sanitize drinking fountains, mirrors, tables, walls, fixtures, blinds, light fixtures, etc.
- Wash windows, walls, metal, and woodwork.
- Pick up litter from around buildings, streets, and grounds; sweep sidewalks.
- Perform minor, semi-skilled interior building maintenance and repairs such as painting, installing/repairing soap and toilet seat gasket dispensers, installing, moving, or removing white boards, performing minor plumbing such as unplugging toilets, repairing toilet seats, etc., fixing furniture, cabinet handles, installing/repairing wall and door trim, hanging/repairing blinds, maintaining cleaning equipment.
- Maintain inventory of supplies and chemicals required for job.
- Inspect and maintain assigned custodial equipment and small tools for proper operating condition.
- Open and close, lock and unlock facilities as needed. Assure that buildings are secure.
- Keep records of work completed.
- Safely mix, use, and dispose of chemicals and cleaning agents.

- Remain current with relevant technological advancements as it relates to the field.
- Maintain regular, reliable, and punctual attendance.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 6 months of Custodian experience.
- Driver’s license
- Successful passing of a required criminal background check, national fingerprint-based records check, and driving record check.
- Knowledge of equipment, materials and supplies used in building and grounds maintenance.
- Knowledge of equipment and supplies used to do minor repairs.
- Knowledge of first aid, applicable safety precautions, and OSHA/WISHA safety standards.

95% of work is performed in an office environment and 5% is performed outdoors in all weather conditions. Exposure to high voltage wires, hazardous materials, heights, and noise from equipment.
- Noise level out in the field is moderately loud.
- Noise level in the office is moderately quiet.
