Eastern Washington University seeks a professional Human Resources Associate to serve as the principal consultant for assigned client areas supporting faculty, classified, exempt, and temporary employees. Primary focus is on recruitment, with additional responsibilities in performance management, training, contract, rule and policy advice, classification, compensation, employee relations, HRIS, and organizational structure.
Key Responsibilities- Review position requisitions for quality, accuracy, and alignment with university standards.
- Recommend advertising media and timelines using People Admin, Job Elephant, and university systems.
- Develop recruitment information, advertisements, and supplemental marketing materials.
- Maintain updated recruitment information and statuses in university systems.
- Provide search committee training; monitor recruitments and oversee applicant evaluation.
- Screen assigned applications and facilitate approval of interviews and hires.
- Generate applicant demographic reports, develop offer letters and contracts.
- Maintain recruitment files and applicant records in compliance with university and public records requirements.
- Assist employees, managers, and departments with HR functional areas and services, offering advice related to exemplary HR practices.
- Assist in problem and conflict resolution, performance development, personnel actions (including layoffs and separations).
- Interpret and apply collective bargaining agreements, university policies, procedures, and applicable laws.
- Participate in training as necessary and undertake additional duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Minimum five years of human resource experience beyond entry-level in areas such as:
- Recruitment
- Performance management, training and coaching
- Organizational structure and restructuring
- Contract, rule and policy advising
- Classification, position development, and compensation
- Human resources information systems (People Admin and/or Banner)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
- Database management and report generation in HRIS.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; professional demeanor; discretion and confidentiality.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Conflict management, collaboration, and team effectiveness.
- Customer‑service orientation and commitment to quality relationships.
- Culturally responsive and flexible approach supporting diverse needs, including universal accessibility.
- Human resources experience in a college or university setting.
- Experience in an environment with collective bargaining.

Background & Eligibility- Successful completion of a background check is required.
- Compliance with EWU Immunization Policy 602‑02; proof of MMR immunity required.
