Overview
Under the direction of laboratory leadership, the Phlebotomist obtains accurate and reliable blood and body fluid specimens from properly identified adult and/or pediatric patients. Identifies phlebotomy difficulties, defines appropriate solutions and coordinates resources. Maintains outstanding relationships with client and technical staff. The phlebotomist is responsible for obtaining, preparing and ensuring specimen integrity of specimens such as blood, urine, sputum, stool and various cultures by logging, spinning, and distributing to laboratory testing areas.
Performs all duties in a manner which promotes team concept and reflects the mission and values of Providence Health & Services.
- Obtain, prepare and ensure integrity of specimens (blood, urine, sputum, stool and various cultures).
- Identify phlebotomy difficulties, define appropriate solutions, and coordinate resources.
- Log, spin, and distribute specimens to appropriate laboratory testing areas.
- Maintain outstanding relationships with clients and technical staff.
- Promote a team-oriented approach and reflect the mission and values of Providence Health & Services.
- Completion of a phlebotomy program administered by an accredited postsecondary school or college or a phlebotomy training program, or equivalent education/experience.
- Upon hire:
Washington Medical Assistant Phlebotomist Certification. - Minimum of 6 months phlebotomy experience.
