Obstetrics Technician

Overview

The Maternity Tech functions within his/her scope of practice under the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse to provide indirect care related to the obstetrical patient. Responsible to function as the "scrub technologist" in the C-section suite and other clinical areas, including the selection and setup of the sterile table with instruments, supplies and equipment; the passing of instruments to the surgeon during the procedure;

maintaining sterile technique and caring for instruments following the procedure. In addition, the Maternity Technician is expected to assist in vaginal deliveries and perform designated unit and clerical functions.

The Maternity Tech is part of Providence Holy Family Hospital and works to provide patient-focused, whole-person care in a culture built on understanding, commitment, and mutual respect.

• Prepare and maintain sterile technique for the C-section suite and other clinical areas.

• Select and set up sterile tables with instruments, supplies and equipment; pass instruments to the surgeon during procedures; care for instruments after procedures.

• Assist in vaginal deliveries and perform designated unit and clerical functions as assigned.

• Collaborate with Registered Nurses and perioperative team to support obstetrical patients and maintain patient safety and care quality.

• Coursework/Training:
  Completion of an accredited surgical technologist program or equivalent combination of education and directly related work experience.

  Washington Surgical Technologist Registration
• Upon hire:
  National Provider BLS - American Heart Association

• Upon hire:
  Provider NRP - American Academy of Pediatrics
• Recent experience as an OB Scrub Tech or surgical technologist in an acute care facility.
