Position: WDVA Dietitian 1, Full-Time - Permanent, Washington Veterans Home

Opportunity

Washington State Department of Veterans Affairs (WDVA) is hiring a Registered Dietitian/Nutritionist to provide clinical nutrition care for residents at the Washington Veterans Home in Port Orchard, Washington. This role involves professional‑level nutrition assessments, counseling, medical nutritional therapy, and support of a multidisciplinary care team in a long‑term care setting.

Duties
  • Create and maintain individualized resident care plans.
  • Review and revise menus for modified diet needs.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members and attend care conferences.
  • Audit patient records to ensure dietary compliance with nutritional needs.
  • Communicate with nursing staff, food service personnel, and other team members to assess resident nutrition.
  • Participate in quality assessment and improvement measures to promote quality food service and positive nutrition outcomes.
  • Maintain legible and accurate records and communicate with supervisory staff to ensure nutrition care plans are implemented.
  • Train staff, entry‑level dietetic professionals, and dietetic interns.
  • Train health‑care professionals in clinical applications of nutrition principles.
  • Provide dietary staff training related to therapeutic diets and dietary needs of residents.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in food and nutrition or dietetics meeting NAACUP standards.
  • Valid registration with the Commission of Dietetics Registration (RD/RDN).
  • Certification or eligibility for a Registered Dietitian, with requirement to obtain RDN within six months of hire if current state credential is RDE.
  • Current Washington State Food Handler's Permit and knowledge of food safety practices.
  • Relevant professional experience, assessed on a year‑for‑year basis.
Desired Qualifications
  • At least two years of recent experience as a registered dietitian‑nutritionist, preferably in long‑term care.
  • Certified Diabetes Educator.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word).
  • Be a Serve Safe certified professional.
  • Specialist certification in Gerontological Nutrition.
  • Experience with Electronic Medical Record programs such as Point Click Care.
Additional Competencies
  • Proficient use of the Nutrition Care process.
  • Knowledge of therapeutic diet planning, preparation, and serving of special diets.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Capability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Comfortable with public speaking and outreach.
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as required.
Compensation & Benefits

Starting Salary: $45/hour; full‑time (30–40 hours/week) earnings range: $70,200–$93,600. Eligible for “Supplement Basic Shift Premium” of $1.00/hour for 24/7 facility shifts, expiring June 29, 2027.
