Commercial Loan Underwriter

Reports to: Senior Leadership / Commercial Lending (working closely with lender team)
We’re seeking an experienced Commercial Loan Underwriter to support and strengthen our commercial real estate lending operation. The priority is strong underwriting / credit
—we can train the right underwriter on document preparation using standardized templates (Laser Pro). This role will be central to keeping deals moving and scaling a growing community bank platform based in Spokane.
Underwrite and recommend approval/decline for commercial real estate loans
, including construction and “quick in-and-out” projects (often 9–12 month durations).Analyze borrower/guarantor financials, global cash flow, rent rolls, appraisals, budgets, draws, and collateral.
Prepare clear, defensible credit write-ups and support loan committee / leadership decisioning.
Review and structure participation deals (often shared with multiple participant banks); coordinate documentation review process as needed.
Prepare and/or coordinate loan documentation using Laser Pro templates (generally “vanilla”/standard docs).
Ensure documentation package accuracy, completeness, and alignment with approvals/terms.
Coordinate internally to move files from approval to close efficiently (no attorney-prepared docs as standard practice; counsel may review complex participations when needed).
Partner closely with lenders and leadership to keep underwriting standards tight and throughput consistent.
Help build durable lending infrastructure in Spokane as the team evolves over the next 1–2 years.
Annual volume: approximately $28–$30MM (new + renewals), with about $10MM new volume targeted on the higher end in the current year.
Typical flow: roughly 15 deals/year (sometimes up to ~20).
Lending limits: roughly $1.5MM

3+ years (or equivalent) commercial credit/underwriting experience, ideally with CRE and construction exposure.
Strong credit fundamentals: collateral evaluation, repayment analysis, borrower strength, guarantor analysis, and risk identification.
Ability to produce high-quality written credit narratives and communicate risk clearly to leadership.
Comfortable operating in a lean environment—hands-on, practical, “get it done” mindset.
Experience with
participation loans and multi-bank deal coordination.Familiarity with Laser Pro (or similar loan doc generation systems).
Background in community bank or regional bank credit culture.
Ability and interest to grow into a broader credit leadership role over time.
