About The PositionThe City of Spokane Valley is seeking two enthusiastic employees to serve for thirty to forty hours per week during the summer months, as temporary seasonal stormwater interns, days and hours to be arranged.
Selected Examples of Duties- Primary duties will include the field inspection and evaluation of structural stormwater facilities within city right-of-way including but not limited to drywells, catch basins, swales, culverts and pipes. Interns will then have the opportunity to learn basic GIS database and mapping skills by compiling the field inspection data and updating the GIS stormwater database.
- Secondary duties may include construction inspection and assisting stormwater staff with engineering document research, reporting and record keeping.
Minimum Qualifications
- Education and Experience: Must be enrolled full-time during the school year in one of the following college study fields: civil engineering, water/natural resources, environmental science, geology, geography, or equivalent. GIS/CAD education or experience is strongly desired.
- Must possess a valid State driver's license or have the ability to obtain one prior to employment and have a good driving record.
- Physical exertion will be required to lift manhole covers.
- Successful completion of pre-employment physical and a background check, including a criminal check, are requirements of employment at Spokane Valley.
The compensation for the Stormwater Intern is $22.00. This position is ineligible for City-sponsored benefits including PERS retirement; however, the position is covered by Workers Compensation insurance and subject to Federal with holdings for Social Security, Medicare and income taxes. This is an at-will, non-represented, FLSA non-exempt, temporary-seasonal position in our Community and Public Works Department.
