Whitworth University invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor of Theology with a primary focus on the Old Testament. Whitworth’s Theology Department is known for its strong commitment to teaching excellence, active scholarship, and Christian ministry. Faculty members take both the gospel and academic inquiry seriously, grounding students in Christian Scripture, history, and doctrine while preparing them for lives of faithful service across a wide range of vocations and ministries.

Teaching and Curriculum- Teach introductory and upper-division undergraduate courses in biblical studies, with an emphasis on the Old Testament.
- Regular courses include Old Testament Theology, Biblical Hebrew, and general Bible courses.
- Develop and teach additional courses aligned with the faculty member’s scholarly interests and areas of expertise.
- Maintain a teaching load of 21 credits per academic year across fall, January, and spring terms.
- Establish and sustain an active research and scholarly agenda appropriate to a teaching-focused institution.
- Engage in ongoing professional development and disciplinary conversations.
- Provide academic advising and mentoring to undergraduate students.
- Participate in departmental responsibilities, faculty governance, and university service.
- Contribute to faculty development initiatives and the broader academic community at Whitworth.
- Ph.D. (or equivalent terminal degree) in Old Testament / Hebrew Bible by the time of appointment. ABD candidates with anticipated completion during the current academic year will be considered.
- A personal commitment to the Christian faith and to the integration of faith and learning.
- A commitment to the educational mission of Whitworth as a Christian liberal arts university standing within Reformed, evangelical, and ecumenical traditions.
- Demonstrated ability or clear promise of effective undergraduate teaching.
- Evidence of scholarly potential and engagement.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English, the language of instruction.

Four-year visiting appointment
Hiring range: $59,572 to $63,718. Commensurate with years of credited service. 1.75% increase to the minimum salary is granted for each year of credited service at the rank of assistant professor.
