Job Description: This position earns between $633.50 - $1,821.00 weekly contractual wage.

Responsibilities
  • Provides consistent, respectful and professional internal/external customer care. Maintains an open line of communication to ensure customers receive high levels of satisfaction.
  • Reviews and interprets work orders, circuit diagrams and follows standard practices.
  • Receives work orders and instructions from supervisor and/or computer access terminal; reviews and analyzes complex schematic drawings to determine work to be done and sequence of tasks.
  • Performs work both inside and outside in connection with providing telephone service between the central office and the customer s premises.
  • Interfaces with customers on construction, installation or repair work.
  • Works with hot metal, tools, digital loop carrier equipment, fiber optic cables, air pressure monitoring systems, and associated equipment; identifies wires by color code and tone.
  • Determines differences in wire and cable colors and audible tones; prepares newly installed cables, conductors, and fibers for splicing by removing outer sheath, insulation and fiber coating.
  • Splices cables in aerial, underground, buried, submarine and building configurations for multiple conductor cable, coaxial cable and fiber optic cable.
  • Identifies conductors in adjoining cable sections according to diagrams and specifications using test signals or fiber optic test equipment.
  • Operates hydraulic aerial lifts (buckets) and ladders mounted on trucks.
  • Completes splices by enclosing with waterproof case, shrinkable sleeving, or lead sleeve as required; loads tools and materials on a company vehicle and travels to work locations as needed.
  • May report directly to the work location in some cases.
  • Performs safety-related activities, including testing for toxic and explosive gas before entering manholes and continuing tests while in manholes; may require cleaning manholes before and after work.
  • Communicates with other employees about completed work and requests information regarding work assignments.
  • Repairs, maintains, and reconfigures cable plant, fiber optic plant and digital loop carrier equipment; rearranges other plant to conform with cable work and cabling tasks.
  • Uses test equipment to isolate conductor faults or identify defective or broken fibers.
  • Turns up, troubleshoots, and maintains digital carrier equipment and maintains light wave and metallic terminals.
  • Uses electrical instruments such as cable locators, resistance fault locators, and open fault locators to verify and determine defects in cables, conductors and wires; uses span measuring test sets and signal generators to verify carrier equipment in subscriber/digital carrier systems.
  • Removes, tests, and replaces plug-in carrier equipment in central office, repeater, and remote terminal locations.
  • Uses computer terminals related to Operations Support Systems for work locations.
  • Follows established safety procedures and safely utilizes equipment to perform required duties, including adherence to weight limitations; climbs poles and ladders, works aloft with small tools; works outside in all kinds of weather; lifts and moves loads up to 120 pounds; drives a company vehicle.
