Welding Engineer is responsible for developing welding techniques, procedures, and applications, utilizing knowledge of production specifications, properties and characteristics of metals and alloys, and general engineering principles. The role also includes research and development to develop and test new fabrication processes and procedures or to improve existing techniques.
What You’ll Do- Maintain existing welding processes to Challenge Manufacturing standards
- Reduce costs through continuous improvement activities that enhance safety, quality, and productivity
- Define recommended welding spare parts
- Develop and maintain weld parameter/setup sheets
- Support and lead new line launch verification projects
- Work with Maintenance and destruct staff to maintain and improve weld quality
- Implement, test, and monitor products in production equipment
- Support in driving standardization across joining processes in manufacturing:
- GMAW
- DAW
- RSW
- SPR
- FDS
- Develop training documentation for the above joining processes in relation to customer quality requirements
- Troubleshoot welding (GMAW, RSW, DAW) issues on production tooling
- Develop welding schedules for GMAW, RSW, and DAW on ferrous and nonferrous material
- Participate in design reviews for upcoming new projects
- Interface with new equipment vendors and internal/external customers
This will be a 3rd shift / 9:30 PM – 5:30 AM, Sunday through Thursday, located at our Plant in Spartanburg, SC. Occasionally, you may need to arrive early, stay late, or work on weekends to meet customer needs, deadlines, or urgent requests.
What You Need To Have- Bachelor of Science in Welding Engineering or equivalent understanding of resistance welding and arc welding principles and standards, plus mechanical engineering
- 1-3 years’ experience in a welding manufacturing environment; automotive experience preferred
- Experience welding in RSW, GMAW, and DAW on low carbon and high-strength steels
- Robotic welding experience, ABB and Fanuc preferred
- Destructive testing experience (setting up the process and training others) for RSW, DAW, and GMAW
- 5+ years’ RSW, GMAW, and DAW experience in automotive welding manufacturing (preferred)
- Developing and troubleshooting GMAW and RSW on different grades of steel and aluminum (preferred)
- Experience setting up and training with Tessonics RSWA devices or other UT devices (preferred)
- Training inexperienced people in destructive and nondestructive testing methods (preferred)
- Developing and writing work instructions for welding and inspection operations (preferred)
- Excellent planning, organizational, written and verbal communication skills with MS Office proficiency (preferred)
- Demonstrates honesty, integrity, and reliability in work
- Ability to resolve conflicts constructively, with a focus on issue resolution and progress monitoring
- Sense of urgency to meet customer needs
- Willingness to rotate through all job responsibilities and maintain knowledge/skills for effective performance
- Positive attitude toward change and learning opportunities; collaborative mindset
