Job SummaryThe wastewater operator will oversee and maintain the treatment of wastewater to ensure compliance with environmental regulations. They will monitor and adjust equipment, perform routine inspections, and conduct tests to assess water quality. The role involves troubleshooting and repairing system malfunctions to maintain efficient operations. Additionally, the operator will maintain accurate records of processes and ensure safety protocols are strictly followed.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities- Perform analyses, recording measurements/actions in applicable record logs.
- Recognize unusual, inefficient, or dangerous operating conditions and take immediate action.
- Have a basic understanding of process flow and mechanical functions.
- Familiar with basic chemicals, chemical compounds, and reactions.
- Inspect equipment and perform routine cleaning/preventive maintenance.
- Keep work area neat and organized.
- Monitor and regulate waste treatment discharge to align with all applicable regulations.
- Maintain working relationships, communicate effectively, and work with minimal supervision.
- Experience in manufacturing environment for +1 year.
- Assist in maintenance, repair, and replacement of motors, pumps, gearboxes, pulleys, belts, and other parts of the wastewater process.
- Perform extensive and in‑depth preventive maintenance inspections, checks, and services.
- Hold current license in physical chemical wastewater treatment and desire to obtain higher license.
- Know process chemicals and hazards associated with handling hazardous chemicals.
- Solid understanding of operation methods and procedures of waste treatment.
- General arithmetic skills.
- Ability to reach, grasp, lift 35 lbs, and push/pull/slide heavy material.
- Perform coordinated movements of hands and arms to grasp and move objects.
- Stoop, bend, squat, crawl, and climb.
- Physical/Chemical Wastewater – Class A license.
- Ability to become forklift & MEWP certified.
- Strong computer, math, and reading skills.
- Ability to multi‑task and adapt to an ever‑changing environment.
- Must follow established methods and procedures.
- Excellent verbal and written communication with leadership and team.
- Ability to work from heights up to 45’ using fall protection.
- South Carolina Environmental Certification Board Wastewater Operator License.
