Sr Quality Engineer – Oshkosh Defense

As a Senior Quality Engineer on the 3rd shift, you will partner cross‑functionally with Materials, Operations, Safety, and Engineering to improve quality and efficiency of our products, emphasizing the elimination of process waste. Structured quality improvement tools are required. You will design and re‑engineer processes to meet safety, quality, and business expectations, using process flow diagrams and cycle‑time analysis to substantiate ROIC.

Responsibilities
  • Lead quality engineering for production operations.
  • Direct and prioritize projects for the quality technicians reporting to this position.
  • Develop quality checklists and related documentation as required.
  • Collaborate with design engineering, production, and quality leadership to resolve build issues.
  • Lead RCCA/8D efforts for build issues.
  • Represent the quality function at daily production reviews.
  • Support housekeeping and safety.
  • Facilitate and train employee teams in process improvement techniques.
  • Assist in the identification and implementation of Six‑Sigma projects.
  • Apply basic process improvement tools within the Six‑Sigma DMAIC model (e.g., Project Charter, Process Map, Pareto Chart, Fishbone Diagram, 5‑Why Analysis, SPC, FMEA, Benchmarking).
  • Design and improve process inputs to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Reduce common‑cause variability and eliminate special causes.
  • Establish control plans to prevent process backsliding.
  • Perform internal and external process capability studies.
  • Analyze process constraints and develop standards to overcome them.
  • Effectively manage large process improvement projects.
  • Revise procedures for process improvement.
  • Implement effective corrective and preventative actions using structured planning methods.
  • Coordinate with Employee Teams, Quality, Engineering, Contracts, Sales, and Manufacturing to improve processes.
  • Plan and execute plans within established time constraints.
  • Maintain company records and documents in adherence to policies and procedures.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Quality, Business, Operations Management, or a related field.
  • Three or more years of related work experience.
Standout Qualifications
  • Advanced training/experience in the use of statistical techniques and process improvement methods.
  • Ability to interpret basic technical drawings, including views, title blocks, dimensioning, and GD&T symbols.
  • Experience with structured problem‑solving techniques and computer applications.
  • Proficiency with MS Windows, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Project, Visio, statistical software, and JDE is recommended.
