Position: Instructor, Transitional Studies English (9 month)

Overview

Teach Transitional Studies English courses to a diverse student body using effective teaching strategies; develop, revise, and maintain course materials; recommend/design new programs; maintain office hours; participate in professional development opportunities; participate in College and community activities, promote the mission of the College; develop/implement retention strategies; assist in graduate placement; attend graduation ceremony; assist with student advising and registration; serve on College committees;

promote institutional goals; assist with departmental administrative responsibilities. Teaching may be on any campus, or by distance learning, and may be days, nights, weekends or a combination.

Key Responsibilities
  • TEACHING PERFORMANCE – The ability to present course materials through appropriate instructional strategies to facilitate the learning process.
  • INSTRUCTIONAL DEVELOPMENT – The development, revision, and maintenance of courses and curriculum through course objectives, outlines, and appropriate materials.
  • INSTRUCTIONAL MANAGEMENT – The effective use of required office hours, exhibition of effective classroom management and control, and timely and accurately submitted reports.
  • STUDENT ADVISEMENT – The participation of the faculty member, when applicable, in assisting students in personal and professional development.
  • COLLEGE AND/OR COMMUNITY SERVICES – Participation in College activities and the promotion of the College through public service.
  • PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT – The participation of the faculty member in activities designed to develop professional skills so as to maintain and improve proficiency in his/her present position.
Qualifications
  • Baccalaureate degree in English, Secondary English, English Education, Language Arts, Literature, and demonstrated competence in the teaching discipline.
  • Master's degree in English, Language Arts, English Education, or Literature.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations representing a wide range of abilities, ages, nationalities, and cultures.
  • Teaching experience at a two-year college and/or teaching experience in adult education.
  • Experience teaching with instructional technology, knowledge of, and demonstrated ability to implement innovative teaching strategies.

The faculty member will work as a part of the Transitional Studies team. Professional, collegial and ethical conduct, decisions and, and ethical conduct, decisions, relationships are expected at all times.
