Northern Nevada Health System (NNHS): Northern Nevada Health System is a regional multi-facility system that has excelled at offering quality care to residents of the greater Truckee Meadows. The System operates two acute care hospitals, Northern Nevada Medical Center and Sierra Medical Center, in addition to Northwest Specialty Hospital and freestanding emergency departments. In addition, NNHS has a robust outpatient services division offering family medicine, urgent care, and specialty care focused on cardiology, cardiothoracic surgery, general surgery, and wound care.

Similar to a hospital emergency department, the Free Standing Emergency Dept (FED) treats a variety of emergency medical needs including heart attack, stroke, trauma conditions, lacerations, acute pain and other life-threatening conditions. If a patient requires a higher level of care, NNMC partners with local EMS providers to transport patients to an appropriate regional hospital.

“In alignment with providing the highest quality emergency care, we staff our FED’s with board-certified emergency medicine physicians, ER-trained nurses and techs,” said Travis Anderson, MD, Medical Director of Emergency Services at Northern Nevada Health System. “When a patient experiences a life-threatening emergency, we want to instill confidence that they have access to 24/7 medical services in their neighborhood.”
