Medical Assistant - Urgent Care

Northern Nevada Health System – Sparks, NV. Salary: $19.14 - $28.71 per hour. Full time.

Summary

This full‑time medical assistant position offers full benefits and a convenient day shift schedule. It involves assisting in patient examination and treatment under physician direction, interviewing patients, measuring vital signs, performing venipuncture and other procedures as permitted by scope of practice, documenting all care in the Electronic Medical Record per IPM guidelines, preparing treatment rooms for patient examination, and assisting front‑desk duties as required.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in examination and treatment of patients under physician direction.
  • Interview patients and measure vital signs (pulse, temperature, blood pressure, weight, height).
  • Perform venipuncture and other procedures as permitted by scope of practice.
  • Document all care in the Electronic Medical Record per IPM guidelines.
  • Prepare treatment rooms for patient examination.
  • Assist front‑desk duties as required.
  • Participate in decision‑making and process improvement.
  • Maintain cleanliness of patient rooms, nursing station, and storage areas; manage product expiration dates.
  • Distribute referrals to physicians and insurance companies; document referrals.
  • Pre‑authorize prescriptions and clinical tests (CT, MRI, ultrasound, etc.).
  • Coordinate patient prescriptions via phone/fax.
  • Solve scheduling for diagnostic imaging, dietician, cardiology, radiology, etc.
  • Accurately triage patients.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of an accredited medical assistant program.
  • Current BLS/CPR certification.
  • Medical Assistant Certificate of Completion and/or at least one year of experience as a medical assistant.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology.
  • Experience with patient check‑in and check‑out processes per clinic protocol.
  • Knowledge of general medical office procedures.
  • Understanding of end‑of‑day cash balancing and charge reconciliation per clinic protocol.
