What to ExpectTesla’s Metrology team supports all production lines across LFP battery and power products. This role requires a highly technical, detail-oriented engineer who can bridge design, manufacturing, and quality to ensure all incoming and in-process parts meet stringent dimensional and functional requirements. You will act as a technical authority in dimensional metrology, supporting Engineering teams through robust measurement strategies, GD&T interpretation, and root‑cause analysis of dimensional issues across suppliers and internal manufacturing processes.
Whatyou’ll do
- Provide hands‑on dimensional engineering support for incoming inspection, production issues, and supplier readiness.
- Develop robust measurement strategies aligned with GD&T intent, part function, and manufacturing capability.
- Support Engineering during design reviews, part releases, and dimensional risk assessments.
- Lead metrology time studies, capacity planning, and KPI development to improve lab throughput and visibility.
- Track and report lab health metrics including turnaround time, utilization, repeatability, and backlog.
- Evaluate, deploy, and validate new metrology equipment, software, and technologies.
- Drive continuous process improvement to enhance measurement robustness, cycle time, and inspection consistency.
- Lead dimensional root cause analysis, data trending, and corrective/preventive actions.
- Serve as the GD&T subject‑matter expert, training teams and advising on datum schemes, tolerance stack‑ups, and inspection feasibility.
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or equivalent experience.
- 3–5 years of experience in metrology, dimensional engineering, quality engineering, or design engineering.
- Advanced knowledge of GD&T (ASME Y14.5) with the ability to interpret drawings and define effective datum strategies.
- Hands‑on experience programming and operating CMM/OMM;
Poly Works, PC‑DIMS, and Calypso, etc.
