National Vice President of Pathology Services

Position purpose:
The National Vice President of Operations Pathology Services is responsible for overseeing and optimizing the operational and financial performance of the pathology department, ensuring efficiency, regulatory compliance, and strategic growth. This role requires close collaboration with pathologists, laboratory leadership, and clinical teams to enhance workflow, improve service delivery, and drive departmental goals and objectives in accordance with the company’s mission, vision, and philosophy.

Responsibilities
  • Operational Oversight:
    Manage leaders of daily operations for pathology services, ensuring efficiency, quality, and compliance with regulatory standards. This involves overseeing laboratory functions, resource allocation, and workflow optimization.
  • Financial Management:
    Oversee budgeting and financial planning for the pathology department, ensuring cost‑effective operations and adherence to financial targets.
  • Team Leadership:
    Manage and mentor a multidisciplinary team of leaders, supporting professional development and fostering a collaborative work environment enterprise‑wide.
  • Quality Assurance:
    Ensure adherence to quality standards and continuous improvement initiatives, implementing quality control measures and addressing any deficiencies.
  • Stakeholder Engagement:
    Serve as primary liaison between pathology department and other departments, senior leadership, and external partners. Represent the department in executive meetings and collaborate on cross‑functional objectives.

Qualifications

Education:

Bachelor’s degree or relevant work experience in health care, health care administration, or laboratory‑specific leadership position.

Experience
  • 10+ years of experience in operational leadership with expertise in financial planning and analysis.
  • Proficiency in data analytics tools to assess operational and financial performance.
  • Strong financial acumen, including experience managing budgets, forecasting, and cost management.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and strategic planning skills.
  • Proven ability to lead large teams, manage change, and drive process improvements.
Performance Requirements
  • Knowledge of organizational policies and procedures to manage operations and ensure effective patient care.
  • Ability to understand the financial and operational aspects of a health care institution and demonstrate measurable results and outcomes.
  • Capability to develop and implement strategic planning, effective community relations, and oversight of regulatory and quality initiatives.
  • Ability to effectively lead in a changing environment.
  • Ability to create an atmosphere that encourages motivation, innovation, and high performance.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively orally and in writing.
  • Competency in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and appropriate practice management software.

Equipment Operated:
Standard office equipment including computers, fax machines, copiers, printers, telephones, and calculator.

Work Environment:
Position is in an office environment. Travel is required to effectively lead assigned areas.

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear; and taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
