The Tax Manager reports to the VP of Finance & Accounting and is responsible for managing federal and state tax compliance, tax planning initiatives, and tax reporting processes for a multi-entity structure consisting of a corporate parent with partnership subsidiaries. The role partners closely with internal leadership and external tax advisors to manage tax risk, support strategic initiatives, and ensure accurate and timely tax reporting.

Responsibilities

and Duties

Essential Functions:

  • Manage federal and state corporate income tax compliance and tax payments, and coordinate with external advisors responsible for the preparation of the Company’s tax provision
  • Support tax reporting for a multi-entity structure, including partnership subsidiaries, K-1 allocations, and partner reporting requirements
  • Review federal and state, and local income and franchise tax filings for the consolidated group and underlying partnership entities
  • Manage cross-border tax reporting and planning initiatives, including coordination of U.S.

    -Canada tax matters and transfer pricing considerations
  • Ensure internal stakeholders receive timely and accurate tax information, including quarterly and annual tax reporting requirements
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on domestic, international, and sales/use tax matters across the organization
  • Track significant book-to-tax differences and provide supporting data to external advisors for the tax provision and compliance process
  • Collaborate closely with external tax advisors, including coordination of information requests, deliverables, and timeline tracking
  • Manage correspondence and notices from federal and state tax authorities
  • Perform tax research on sales/use tax, property tax, and other tax matters as needed
  • Support quarterly taxable income estimates and tax payment calculations
  • Monitor tax legislation and communicate potential impacts to company leadership
  • Assist the VP of Finance on strategic initiatives, acquisitions, and other special projects

Qualifications and KSA

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in public accounting and/or industry.
  • Experience in construction, private equity, or real estate is preferred.
  • Experience with corporate and partnership taxation within a multi-entity structure, including partnership K-1 allocations and multi-state filings.
  • Exposure to international tax considerations, particularly U.S. – Canada matters.
  • Exposure to construction accounting, including percentage-of-completion revenue recognition.
  • Exposure to ASC 740 tax provision concepts and deferred tax accounting.

Certifications/Licenses:

  • CPA and/or master’s degree in taxation preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Advanced proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite, with advanced skills in Excel.
  • Strong knowledge of federal and state tax regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Ability to identify tax risks and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex tax matters.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across all levels of the organization.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with a high level of attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
