We are seeking a hands‑on, builder‑oriented Controller to lead the design, implementation, and scaling of Gov Path’s accounting function. This role is ideal for a leader who thrives in growing environments, enjoys building structure where little exists, and brings a strong process, systems, and automation mindset.
The Controller will be a key partner to the CFO and leadership team. This individual is responsible not only for accurate financial reporting, but for creating scalable, repeatable, and well‑documented accounting processes that support growth, integration, and operational decision‑making.

Key Responsibilities Accounting Operations & Close Discipline- Own and continuously improve the monthly and year‑end close process, establishing a predictable, timely, and accurate close cadence.
- Ensure integrity of the general ledger, balance sheet reconciliations, and financial statements.
- Develop and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and documentation aligned with GAAP.
- Design, document, and standardize end‑to‑end accounting processes (order‑to‑cash, procure‑to‑pay, payroll, revenue recognition).
- Identify and eliminate manual processes, spreadsheets, and inefficiencies through automation and system improvements.
- Partner with the CFO to evolve the accounting operating model as the company scales.
- Support integration of future acquisitions by establishing standardized accounting playbooks and processes.
- Serve as primary owner of the accounting system (Sage Intacct) and related integrations (billing, CRM, payroll, expense management).
- Evaluate and implement tools and workflows that improve efficiency, accuracy, and scalability.
- Ensure data integrity across systems and reporting layers.
- Prepare timely and accurate financial statements, cash flow reporting, and supporting schedules.
- Establish and maintain internal controls appropriate for a PE‑backed, scaling organization.
- Support external audits, tax filings, and quality‑of‑earnings or transaction‑related work as needed.
- Build, lead, and develop the accounting team over time, including hiring and onboarding future team members.
- Provide hands‑on leadership, coaching, and mentorship.
- Create clear roles, responsibilities, and accountability within the accounting function.
- Partner closely with the CFO, FP&A, and cross‑functional leaders to support forecasting, planning, and decision‑making.
- Provide visibility into working capital, cash flow, and accounting impacts of business initiatives.
- Support leadership with clear, practical insights rooted in strong accounting fundamentals.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance (CPA strongly preferred).
- 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including experience as a Controller, Assistant Controller, Accounting Manager, or senior accounting leader.
- Experience building or scaling processes within a growing, founder‑led or PE‑backed, SaaS, services, or hybrid environment.
- Strong understanding of GAAP, revenue recognition, and internal controls.
- Proficient in accounting software (SAGE Intacct) and Microsoft Excel.
- Demonstrated ability to automate, standardize, and document processes.
- Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with all levels of the organization.
- Comfortable as a hands‑on leader within an evolving environment with limited structure.
