The Estimator role at GMi is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for construction projects. This role reviews bid documents, performs detailed quantity takeoffs, develops pricing based on plans and specifications, and ensures all estimates align with company standards and customer requirements. The Estimator also supports business development efforts by building and maintaining strong client relationships.
What You'll Do- Review and analyze all bid documents, including drawings, specifications, addenda, and customer requirements.
- Perform detailed quantity takeoffs and develop comprehensive cost estimates using OST and Quick Bid.
- Ensure all scope components are accurately captured and aligned with contract documents and specifications.
- Solicit, evaluate, and negotiate vendor pricing and subcontract scopes.
- Prepare clear, professional proposals for submission.
- Coordinate and prepare complete estimate turnover packages for the Project Management team upon award.
- Build new customer relationships and maintain strong relationships with existing GMI clients.
- Maintain strict adherence to company bidding protocols and procedures.
- Uphold the highest standards of ethics, integrity, and professionalism in all estimating activities.
- Strong construction experience in drywall, metal framing, acoustical ceilings, and exterior cladding trades.
- Proficiency in On-Screen Takeoff (OST) and Quick Bid software.
- Thorough understanding of construction documents, plans, specifications, and contract requirements.
- Knowledge of architectural design principles and building components.
- Familiarity with UL assemblies and their application to project plans and specs.
- Understanding of federal, state, and local building codes and regulations.
- Ability to read and interpret schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals.
- Strong negotiation skills related to vendor pricing and scope definition.
- Excellent organizational and decision-making abilities in a fast-paced environment.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Team-oriented mindset with the ability to collaborate across departments.
