Position SummaryStaff Counsel for CURE Auto Insurance has openings resulting from our launch and expansion into the Michigan market. We are looking for an experienced supervising PIP defense attorney with 10+ years of civil litigation experience in handling these types of claims. This experience should include taking and defending depositions, negotiation proficiency, and experience successfully trying cases. Additional leadership potential opportunities are expected with continued expansion of the firm.
Staff Counsel will be responsible for handling PIP files from inception through trial and appeal, if necessary.
• Handle PIP files from inception through trial and appeal.
• Supervise 10+ attorneys within the PIP department, overseeing the onboarding of staff attorneys and providing ongoing coaching to ensure consistent adherence to the firm’s policies and procedures.
• Audit files of other PIP attorneys under direct supervision to ensure accuracy.
• Direct support staff on clerical and administrative matters related to lawsuit handling.
Qualifications- 10+ years of experience handling PIP litigation from inception to conclusion.
- Prior supervision of attorneys for 2+ years preferred.
- Ability to take full responsibility for files.
- Knowledge of local and state discovery rules, trial procedures, and applicable substantive law commensurate with level of experience.
- Experience presenting and cross‑examining lay and expert witnesses.
- Experience as first chair trial attorney.
- Experience working in a paperless electronic environment.
- Strong automation/technological skills for lawsuit handling and courtroom presentation.
- Handling of insurance defense matters.
- Additional handling of first and third‑party claims for auto carriers.
- Must have a law degree from an ABA‑accredited law school and excellent academic credentials.
- Must have an active law license to practice in Michigan and a member in good standing with the State Bar of Michigan.
- Office location:
Southfield, MI; coverage of jurisdictions throughout the state of Michigan.
$145,000 - $170,000 annually based on experience.
Operating ModelRequired to work in‑office 5 days per week.
