Department: Respiratory Therapy
Schedule: Full‑time – 36 hours per week. 7:00 pm to 7:30 am. This position will work every other weekend and rotating holidays.
Location: Henry Ford Providence – Southfield, MI
GENERAL SUMMARYUnder the general supervision of the Respiratory Therapy Supervisor, delivers life‑support, resuscitation, monitoring, and various medical gas therapies primarily to critical‑care patients in the Intensive Care Units. Performs invasive and non‑invasive diagnostic procedures for patients in Intensive Care and General Practice Units. Maintains clinical expertise for departmental assignments throughout HFHS as assigned. Communicates effectively with patients, co‑workers, physicians, and other system employees regarding patient care needs.
Adequately documents all aspects of patient care. Supervises, directs, and delegates responsibilities to respiratory orientations, externs, and students as assigned. Completes necessary and accurate patient billing information.
Graduation from an accredited Respiratory Therapist program. A bachelor's degree in Respiratory Therapy is preferred; an Associate of Science degree is the minimum. Recent graduate or two years of recent Respiratory Therapist experience in a tertiary hospital is required.
CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIREDRegistration with the National Board of Respiratory Care. Current license as a Respiratory Therapist in the State of Michigan. Newly graduated therapists have 90 days from graduation to complete registration with the National Board and obtain a Michigan license. Failure to obtain the required credentials will result in termination.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONSWork performed in a patient‑care setting and blood‑analysis laboratories with potential exposure to communicable disease. Tasks include washing, cleaning, and disinfecting soiled medical equipment; handling pressurized piped‑in and bottled medical gases. Improper lifting or use of equipment could cause personal, patient, or equipment injury. Must continually move, lift patients, push patients onto hospital beds, and move heavy equipment across the hospital.
Noise, temperature fluctuations, and dust are possible.
