- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Medical Assistant Certification (AAMA or CCMA required)
- Valid Michigan Driver’s License
- Prior to the patient receiving services from medical staff:
- Obtain relevant patient medical history summaries
- Takes patient vital signs
- Document medical history summaries and vital signs in the electronic medical record
- Prepare patients for examination and explain treatment procedures to patients as needed
- Collect and prepare laboratory specimens, and may perform basic laboratory tests on the premises
- Dispose contaminated supplies
- Schedule and administer medication injections as ordered by medical staff, following rules and regulations
- Instruct patients about medication and special diets, and order/obtain injectable medications from the onsite/offsite pharmacy as directed by a medical staff member
- May authorize drug refills as directed by medical staff and telephone prescriptions to a pharmacy
