We are seeking a Safety Engineer / Calculation Engineer to support complex automation, tooling, and robotic cell projects within an advanced manufacturing environment.
This role is responsible for performing machinery risk assessments and functional safety calculations to ensure compliance with global safety standards across all phases of engineering projects.
You will work closely with project managers, developers, and customers to architect and validate safe automation systems — from concept through installation and commissioning.
This is a technical functional safety role, not general EHS.
Key ResponsibilitiesLead risk analysis activities for tooling, robotic cells, and automated systems
Conduct PFMEA, ergonomic analysis, and hazard assessments
Perform Performance Level (PL) calculations
Develop functional and technical safety concepts
Ensure compliance with OSHA, ANSI, ISO 12100, ISO 13849, IEC 62061, ISO 26262
Validate guarding systems, interlocks, emergency stops, lockout/tagout, pinch-point protection
Conduct on-site safety verification during installation and commissioning
Develop CE documentation and verify technical files
Investigate tooling-related incidents and implement corrective actions
Participate in design reviews and provide continuous safety feedback
Define safety device lists and generate safety proof documentation
Support machinery maintenance safety requirements and instruction structure
Deliver safety training to operators and technical teams
Bachelor’s degree in:
Mechanical Engineering
Manufacturing Engineering
Safety Engineering
Or related technical field
Strong understanding of machinery safety standards
Experience performing risk assessments and hazard analyses
Ability to read and interpret complex technical documentation
Strong technical report writing capability
Ability to work independently and within cross-functional teams
Ability to travel 5–20%
Minimum 3 years experience in:
Automotive development (hardware or software)
Manufacturing engineering
Industrial safety engineering
Experience in robotic automation and tooling
Experience with ISO 13849 Performance Level calculations
Functional safety management experience (ISO 26262 / IEC 62061)
Experience generating Declarations of Conformity
Second language proficiency (preferred)
Background in automotive automation or robotics
Comfortable in technical design reviews
Experience collaborating with cross-functional engineering teams
Strong analytical mindset with attention to detail
Able to translate safety standards into practical engineering implementation
