Overview
Eaton’s Mobility Group is hiring a Director of Business Development & Strategy. This position will ideally be based in Southfield, Michigan.
Reporting to the President of Global Strategy and eMobility, the Director of Business Development & Strategy is responsible for assessing, compiling and implementing the enterprise strategy for the Mobility group. The enterprise strategy will achieve $6B in sales by 2030 and a 20% ROS by leveraging macro trends coupled with Mobility Group capabilities. The director will lead high-priority projects such as partnerships, M&A/JVs, and evaluation of market or product entry/exit options and assessment of adjacent spaces.
This role will partner with leaders from Eaton’s Mobility Group, including regions & product lines and Corporate Development & Strategy (CD&S), to identify and execute strategic initiatives. The selected leader will be involved with ongoing strategic and financial analysis to assess the health and competitive positioning of the Mobility group’s global portfolio, supporting strategic planning and communicating the Mobility Group’s strategies to internal and external stakeholders.
The position will also support expanding and actively managing the acquisition pipeline, co-leading opportunities related to mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, joint ventures, and minority investment opportunities.
- Develop a comprehensive understanding of the Global Mobility Business and Eaton's enterprise objectives to establish current and long-term growth prospects for the portfolio.
- Create a comprehensive strategic plan that aligns with Eaton’s objectives, industry and regional dynamics, competitive landscape, and customer needs.
- Partner with Mobility senior leaders, regions and global product leads to identify growth opportunities and provide strategic rationale for organic/inorganic initiatives.
- Align processes, resource planning, and goals with the overall strategy, and coordinate strategy deployment across the organization, including effective communication of the business strategy.
- Provide business intelligence and expertise to the team, support cross-functional initiatives, and drive continuous improvement and growth by monitoring emerging markets, macroeconomic trends, and technological advancements.
- Prioritize M&A targets and monitor their performance.
- Support teams in evaluating specific acquisition, divestiture, joint venture, or minority investment opportunities.
- Prepare a complete business case with robust strategic and financial analyses.
- Coordinate with CD&S to develop a common view on qualitative and quantitative deal models and rationale, gathering input from business teams, reviewing and revising legal documents, developing and executing negotiation approaches, and resolving open issues that could affect the transaction or valuation.
- Participate or lead cross-functional initiatives in ongoing assessment and analysis of market dynamics and product line or regional performance.
- Review and deliver an effective organizational setup that leverages regional strengths and ensures proximity to customers.
- Define core competencies for key roles in the structure needed for continued future success.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in business or related field from an accredited university
- MBA or advanced degree strongly preferred
Experience:
- Minimum of 12 years of total professional experience with demonstrated work experience in management consulting, business development, investment banking, product management, in-house corporate strategy, and/or corporate development.
- 10 years using strategic frameworks and analytical tools, conducting industry market and competitor analyses, and applying financial modeling and valuation methodologies in strategic planning or product management functions to develop robust pipelines of potential acquisition targets and partnerships.
- 10 years of progressive leadership experience. Direct and matrix leadership is a strong plus in this role.
