Job Summary

The Advanced Accounting Specialist is responsible for executing daily accounting activities, ensuring compliance with accounting principles, company accounting policies, and regulatory requirements. This role plays a key part in period-end closing processes including cash application, accounts receivable, and intercompany accounting activities. The Senior Accounting Specialist also works closely with cross-functional business partners, acting as a liaison in resolving issues and answering inquiries, to maintain accurate financial reporting and strong internal controls.

Responsibilities
  • Perform timely and accurate general accounting and intercompany accounting activities, including but not limited to:
  • Prepare and submit manual journal entries, including monitoring and recording monthly accruals
  • Ensuring cash is properly applied in the Company’s financial systems in accordance with established policies and processes
  • Prepare monthly balance sheet account reconciliations and resolve reconciling items
  • Perform intercompany confirmations and resolve intercompany differences
  • Maintain cash tracking logs and supporting documentation
  • Performs complex analysis such as accounts receivable adjustments, accounts receivable bad debt reserve, and other ad-hoc analysis.
  • Lead period-end close activities for assigned general ledger areas and intercompany affiliates.
  • Proficient in working within the Company’s Order-to-Cash financial systems, including Oracle, JD Edwards, and DENSO developed tools.
  • Serve as a liaison with cross‑functional teams and multiple locations to resolve accounting issues and inquiries while supporting strong internal controls.
  • Perform other ad-hoc duties, as assigned.
Skills and Abilities
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to discuss or transmit primarily factual information to internal and external customers in the normal course of performing duties

  • Strong analytical skills to investigate, interpret, and reconcile information from several distinct sources in situations where conclusions or resolutions are discernible

  • Customer service skills to display a service-oriented attitude in addressing and responding to questions or issues

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Power Point

  • Advanced knowledge of accounting principles under IFRS and U.S. GAAP

  • Advanced knowledge of financial systems and software (Oracle EPM experience a plus)

  • Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated commitment to teamwork

  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to and effectively manage change.

  • Kaizen mindset with the ability to apply the PDCA (Plan ‑ Do ‑ Check ‑ Act) approach.

  • Must also possess an understanding of current accounting operational structure (financial close, gross profit, J-SOX, etc.)

Qualifications
  • 5+ years of relevant accounting experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Preferred
  • Experience working in Automotive or Manufacturing industries preferred
  • Experience working at a public accounting firm in an assurance or similar line of practice
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and ERP/Accounting systems (Oracle experience is a plus)
