Description:
The CRNA’s primary responsibility will be delivery of anesthesia services.
ResponsibilitiesCoordinate patient care
a) Perform and document complete anesthesia pre-op examination and pain assessment before anesthesia medications are given or procedures are started.
b) Verify with RN that all patient pre-operative and post- operative instructions and questions have been answered for patient.
c) Carefully review patient medications pre-operatively
d) Verify that consents are complete and signed
e) Assist with in–office procedures to include procedures with varying levels of sedation as ordered by the MD per PSC policy.
Maintain rooms, equipment and supplies
a) Assist in maintaining inventory and stocking of products as needed.
b) Notify appropriate staff if any equipment is in need of repair immediately.
c) Examine medications and supplies for expiration date prior to use in patient care.
d) Ensures that all anesthesia equipment is present and in good working order prior to use.
Safety: Ensure Patient & Staff Safety
a) Monitors and assess patient before, during and after anesthesia keeping required documentation.
b) Keep accurate and detailed record of the medications used as well as the patient’s response.
c) Initiate emergency measures as needed if the patient reacts badly to anesthesia as directed by clinic policy and MD.
d) Follow OSHA guidelines, HIPAA and infection control.
e) Follow universal precautions when caring for patients; Use PPE as directed
f) Follow all PSC policies when caring for patients
g) Assist other clinical staff when transferring patients to and from procedure room as needed to maintain patient safety.
Documentation and Compliance
a) Accurate Documentation of: All encounters including patient education.
b) Attend required educational meetings, in-services, and competency validation activities as needed.
c) Maintain competency with all equipment and technology used by anesthesia services in the care of patients.
d) Complies with clinic dress code policy including and surgical attire.
Proactively Assist in Fiscal Management of Department Resources
a) Notify staff/manager after each case about supply needs in the anesthesia notebook after each case assisting the department with voiding the need to over-night items or pay increased shipping fees for “rush orders.”
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Graduation certificate from an accredited RN school of nursing
Hold and maintain current NC state RN nursing license
Hold and maintain required North Carolina Board of Nursing Verification of Certification or Re-Certification as a Nurse Anesthetist.
Must be experienced in the administration of anesthesia and anesthesia-related care in four general categories:
Pre-Anesthetic Preparation and Evaluation
Anesthetic Induction, Maintenance and Emergency Care
Post-Anesthetic Care
Peri-anesthetic and Clinical Support functions, e.g. Respiratory/Ventilatory care, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and management of blood, fluid and electrolyte balance.
Current BLS (Required)
Current ACLS & PALS (Required)
Strong computer skills
Maintains confidentiality; complies with HIPAA
Knowledge of infection control, sterile technique and basic health and safety precautions applicable for work in a clinic setting
Exemplary customer service skills and willingness to assign high priority to patient comfort and satisfaction
Well versed in anesthesia care & administration, able to work independently & analyze patient condition & response to anesthesia
Highly skilled in monitoring techniques and their interpretation
Ability to stand/walk for up to 8-12 hours/day
Ability to bend, stoop, twist, and assist patients in rising from and returning to a wheelchair, gurney, and recovery chair or procedure room table
Ability to work well in stressful situations
Well organized & quality oriented
Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
Ability to work compatibly with physicians and clinic employees
Clinical skills and knowledge consistent with all age groups served by Pinehurst Surgical within the scope of practice as determined by the State of North Carolina and the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists
