Position: Mechanical Design Engineer (Permanent)
A long-established UK manufacturer is looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join their in-house design team. This is a varied, hands-on role covering concept development, CAD design, prototyping and design-for-manufacture, supporting both new product development and continuous improvement.

You’ll be involved across the full product lifecycle, including:

* Mechanical concept design (early-stage ideas through to production-ready solutions)

* 3D CAD modelling, assemblies and detailed drawing creation with tolerancing

* Design for multiple manufacturing processes: machining, extrusions, injection moulding, sheet metal, 3D printing, stamping, etc.

* Hands-on prototyping, testing, refinement and supporting implementation into production

* Improving existing designs for cost, quality and manufacturability

* Designing/supporting machinery, jigs and fixtures to aid production

* Maintaining an organised CAD/PDM drawing library and converting legacy drawings into CAD where required

* Supporting design reviews prior to release and collaborating with stakeholders to strengthen final designs

* Working with suppliers on component sourcing, technical queries and manufacturability (including occasional visits if needed)

* Sharing knowledge with junior team members and contributing to continuous improvement across the design function

Key Skills and Requirements

* Strong mechanical design capability and understanding of engineering principles

* Proficient in Solid Works (or similar 3D CAD package)

* Confident producing fully tolerance engineering drawings

* Meticulous attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills

* Good communication skills (able to explain design decisions clearly)

* Able to manage multiple projects and work to timelines

* Comfortable working independently / using initiative

* Good general computer literacy

* 8:30am–5:00pm, 37.5 hrs/week
