Aspiring Probation Officer – Secondary School (SEMH) – Southend-on-Sea

Milk Education are recruiting for an Aspiring Probation Officer to work within a specialist secondary school in Southend-on-Sea, supporting pupils with high SEMH needs, low aspiration, and barriers to learning. This role is ideal for graduates or individuals considering a future career in probation, youth justice, social work, or criminology.

As an Aspiring Probation Officer, you will work closely with students who may display challenging behaviour, poor attendance, or disengagement from education. Your role will be to build trusted relationships, promote positive choices, and demonstrate the long-term value of education in improving life outcomes. This is a highly rewarding opportunity to gain hands‑on experience working with vulnerable young people in a structured school setting.

You will be joining a secondary school in Southend-on-Sea that places strong emphasis on behaviour intervention, emotional regulation, and raising both attendance and attainment. Staff work collaboratively to support pupils in developing resilience, accountability, and positive future pathways.

What You’ll Be Doing in the Role:
  • Supporting pupils with SEMH needs on a 1:1 and small-group basis
  • Acting as a positive role model, promoting self-discipline and responsibility
  • Supporting behaviour regulation and de-escalation strategies
  • Encouraging regular attendance and engagement with learning
  • Helping pupils understand the real-world consequences of choices and actions
  • Working closely with teachers, pastoral teams, and safeguarding staff
