Position: Group Coordinator (part-time; term time)

City Family CIC is recruiting a Group Coordinator with British Sign Language (BSL) Level 2 (or equivalent/intermediate proficiency), or significant experience working confidently with deaf children and families. The role is available on a term time, part time basis.

They will coordinate inclusive, accessible early years group sessions for families, including those with deaf children aged 0–5.

The post-holder will also support and coordinate volunteers, helping them to contribute positively to group delivery while ensuring safeguarding, inclusion and quality standards are maintained.

  • Location: Southend on Sea, with travel across South Essex
  • Salary: £5912 (actual);
    Pro rata based on £27,600 FTE
  • Hours: Part-time (10 hours per week, term time only - 39 weeks) (subject to discussion)
  • Contract: Fixed term until January 2027
About the Role

The post-holder will coordinate inclusive, accessible early years group sessions for families, including those with deaf children aged 0–5.

The role focuses on building trusted relationships with families, supporting early communication and confidence, and creating welcoming, deaf-aware spaces where children and parents can thrive.

The post-holder will also support and coordinate volunteers, helping them to contribute positively to group delivery while ensuring safeguarding, inclusion and quality standards are maintained.

Key Responsibilities

Direct Family Support & Group Delivery

  • Develop and Coordinate weekly Little Wonders group sessions (term time) using play-based, relationship-centred and trauma-informed approaches.
  • Create inclusive, deaf-friendly environments using visual supports and sign-supported communication.
  • Support parents/carers to build confidence in their child’s communication and development.
  • Build trusted relationships with families who may be isolated or face barriers to accessing support.
  • Support volunteers to contribute safely and confidently to Little Wonders sessions.
  • Provide day-to-day guidance, clear role boundaries and practical direction during sessions.
  • Support volunteers to understand safeguarding expectations, inclusive practice and deaf awareness.
  • Work alongside the Operations Manager to recruitment, onboard, and understand training needs of volunteers
  • Contribute to a positive volunteer experience that encourages retention and peer leadership.

Community Navigation & Partnership Working

  • Work collaboratively with City Family staff, volunteers and partner agencies.
  • Support referral pathways into Little Wonders and wider City Family services where appropriate.
  • Contribute to a joined-up, family-centred approach alongside statutory and specialist provision.

Risk, Safety & Compliance

  • Follow City Family safeguarding policies and escalated concerns appropriately.
  • Maintain awareness of venue procedures, risk assessments and safe practice.
  • Keep clear, accurate and timely records, including attendance and brief session notes.
  • Identify safeguarding concerns and escalated in line with SET procedures and City Family policy.
  • Keep accurate, timely case notes, records, reports and impact statements.

Professional Development & Team Contribution

  • Attend supervision, reflective practice sessions, team meetings and required training.
  • Contribute to learning and continuous improvement of the Little Wonders project.
  • Support the development of City Family’s offer to volunteers

Experience:

  • Experience working with families and/or children in community or early years settings.
