Location: Southend-on-Sea, Essex
Daily Rate: £130 - £160 (Dependent on Experience)
Contract Type: Full-time, Long-term

Randstad Education is currently recruiting for a resilient and adaptive SEMH Instructor to work within a specialist school or Alternative Provision in Southend-on-Sea
. This role is specifically designed for an educator who excels in non-traditional settings and can engage students who may have had negative experiences with mainstream education.
As an SEMH Instructor, you will go beyond standard teaching; you will act as a mentor, authority figure, and advocate for students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health needs. You will be responsible for delivering a functional and creative curriculum designed to re-engage learners and build their self-esteem.
Key Responsibilities- Curriculum Delivery: Lead and deliver a range of subjects (often with a focus on core skills and life skills) tailored to the individual learning levels of SEMH students.
- De-escalation & Support: Utilise positive reinforcement and de-escalation techniques (such as Team-Teach or Price) to manage high-anxiety situations and challenging behaviours.
- Individualised Planning: Work from EHCPs to ensure every student has a personalised pathway toward academic and emotional success.
- Nurturing Environment: Foster a classroom culture based on mutual respect, clear boundaries, and emotional safety.
- Community Liaison: Work with local Southend support services and families to ensure a consistent approach to the student's welfare.
- Proven Experience: A background in SEMH, PRUs, or Youth Work is highly desirable.
- Resilient Character: The ability to "start every day fresh" and maintain a positive outlook despite daily challenges.
- Communication: Exceptional verbal and non-verbal communication skills to connect with hard-to-reach learners.
- Local Knowledge: Proximity to Southend-on-Sea and an understanding of the local demographic is an advantage.
- Compliance: You must possess an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service and be able to provide a full 10-year career history.
- Competitive Pay: Earn £130-£160 per day via PAYE.
