Locum Consultant EndocrinologistMid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust is the only acute hospital provider in the Mid and South Essex Integrated Care System (ICS), which is a system of health and care partners working together for our local population.
Within Mid and South Essex there are 149 GP practices, operating from over 200 sites, forming 27 Primary Care Networks and one Ambulance Trust. There are also three main community and mental health service providers who work together through a community collaborative.
We collaborate with other valuable partners, including three Healthwatch organisations, nine voluntary and community sector organisations and three top tier local authorities, with seven district, borough and city councils, as well as our local universities.
Job overviewThis is a full-time post which includes General Medicine on-call for a Locum Consultant Physician, Diabetes and Endocrinology and General Medicine based at Southend Hospital.
The post holder will take part in inpatient and outpatient specialist diabetes and endocrine services. The appointee will also contribute to the Consultant general on-call medical rota.
This is an exciting opportunity to support the development of an integrated diabetes and endocrine service.

Main duties of the jobProvide an expert opinion and treatment for patients with neurological disease and suspected neurological disease.
To share in the Leadership of the Multidisciplinary team caring for patients with Neurology conditions.
Working with existing colleagues on the development of clinical services
To engage with and contribute to safety systems and national data collection systems as required.
Promote a friendly and team based working environment in line with our Trust values.
Teaching of primary care colleagues and junior medical staff through a mix of case-based review and formal teaching activity.

Person specification Qualifications- Full MRCP (UK) or equivalent qualification
- Entry on the General Medical Council (GMC) Specialist Register for Endocrinology and Diabetes Mellitus.
- Entry on the GMC Specialist Registrar in General (Internal) Medicine or Acute (Internal) Medicine via one of the following:
• Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) (the proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of the interview)
• Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR)
• European Community Rights - A higher degree in medicine (e.g. MD, PhD or equivalent)
- Evidence of service improvement experience
- Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining UK CCT in Endocrinology & Diabetes Mellitus, with General (Internal) Medicine or Acute (Internal Medicine)
- Ability to offer expert clinical opinion on a range of problems both emergency and elective within the specialty
- Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients
- Expertise in a subspecialty
- Evidence of presentations or papers in Diabetes and Endocrinology and/or General /Acute Medicine
- Understanding of current issues within Diabetes and Endocrinology and/or General/ Acute Medicine and future direction of specialty
- Experience of supervising junior doctors
- Experience of teaching clinical skills to undergraduates
- Ability to supervise postgraduate research
- Ability to apply research outcomes to clinical problems
- Experience of audit management
- Applicants must have demonstrable skills in written and spoken English, adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues
