We are seeking an experienced Station Electrician to support First Light's renewable energy projects. This is a unionized position within the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. The Station Electrician reports to the O&M Supervisor and is responsible for the safe, efficient operation and maintenance of project assets.

Position Detail:
The Station Electrician performs technical and non-technical assignments related to operation and maintenance of assets at the projects and related waterways, including generators, motors, gates for river management, and related equipment. Responsibilities include installation, maintenance, repair, overhaul, and life-extension projects for equipment at the South facilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Read and understand engineering prints, electrical and mechanical drawings and schematics.
  • Use industry standards, procedures and best practices to achieve results.
  • Routinely inspect plant equipment, calibrate devices, plan and set up work activities, and support facilities maintenance.
  • Operate generating units (start/stop/load) and perform switching, tagging, and energy isolation as required and in accordance with company procedures.
  • Troubleshoot, analyze, and calibrate instrument and control devices; inspect and test electrical equipment and protective relays; perform maintenance and work on station equipment (generators, motors, transformers, breakers, control switches, batteries, governors, PLCs, etc.).
  • Assist the Operations South Team with measures during planned and unplanned situations to achieve successful operation.
  • Rig and move heavy equipment as needed.
  • Communicate technical information and equipment status clearly.
  • Make recommendations on potential solutions to address issues.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Engineering, Mechanics, Safety to maintain safe operation of facilities.
  • Operate manual, pneumatic, hydraulic, and electrical tools; operate lift trucks, winch trucks, and overhead cranes.
  • Maintain operational records and maintenance history of station equipment.
  • Maintain all required licenses for the position and respond to emergencies outside normal hours.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
  • Comply with all First Light policies and procedures.
Job Qualifications / Skills
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • 4+ years of experience as an electrician in a related or industrial setting.
  • Connecticut journeyperson electrical license or transferable license from another state.
  • Experience with industrial or utility generating plant equipment (pumps, valves, instrumentation, controllers, etc.).
  • General plant electrician experience including MCCs, motor control circuitry, starters, fuses, heaters.
  • Knowledge of safety and environmental regulations.
  • Experience interpreting data, drawings, schematics, and equipment checks.
  • Valid motor vehicle operator's license.
  • Ability to work overtime and rotating shifts and respond to plant emergencies/call-ins as needed.
  • Basic computer and calculator skills; proficient written and verbal communication.
  • Highly organized, self-starter with planning and multitasking abilities; able to work independently and in a team.
  • Positive team attitude and collaborative mindset.
Physical Requirements
  • Capable of standing, walking, climbing, bending, lifting up to 50 lbs, and performing repetitive motions.
  • Work indoors/outdoors in any weather; exposure to hazards typical of hydro-power plants (high voltage, loud noises, confined spaces).
