Description
The Nursing Instructor/Simulation Specialist of the simulation lab has an overall responsibility for the coordination of the simulation lab activities. Additionally, the Instructor is responsible for classroom and clinical instruction. This includes but is not limited to classroom presentations, giving and grading examinations, advising students in academic choices, supervising clinical experiences, planning and participating in lab and simulation, and evaluating students using tools specific to nursing.
The Nursing Instructor/Skills Lab Coordinator position is a 9-month faculty position reporting to the Director of Nursing in the Northwest School of Nursing.
- Master of Science Degree in Nursing
- Two years of Nursing experience
- At least one year of clinical experience
- Teaching experience desirable
- Unencumbered license to practice in Mississippi
- Acceptable criminal history background check
- Coordinates activities of the simulation laboratory to meet the learning needs of students.
- Promotes a climate of collaboration with nursing faculty, allied health, state and regional organizations and other nursing educators to promote simulation training.
- Assists all course coordinators and faculty members who conduct simulation to ensure student learning outcomes needs are met.
- Schedules simulation scenarios in collaboration with lab coordinator and course coordinator so each nursing course has ample time and faculty to conduct simulations.
- Maintains security in nursing labs.
- Seeks and maintains continuing education appropriate for laboratory/simulation instruction.
- Coordinates training faculty in simulation techniques.
- Orders supplies for simulation lab and maintains the integrity of equipment.
- Assists lab coordinator with skills days and check offs when possible.
- Establishes, with approval of the Director, policies, and procedures appropriate for simulation lab.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Nursing.
- Ability to take initiative to solve problems.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Experience using technology including email, word processing, spreadsheet, database, presentation software, and Internet use.
- Strong interpersonal skills to interact tactfully and courteously with students, faculty, staff, and the general public.
- Ability to collaborate with others and work as part of a team.
- Must be a “quick study” to quickly grasp and retain knowledge of policies and procedures relating to every aspect of student services that a prospective or current student may utilize.
- Demonstrate oral and written communication skills to interact with a wide range of diverse individuals.
- Stand for long periods
- Talk, hear, view, and assist students
- Effectively communicate with others in person, telephone, zoom, & live chat
- Sit, use hands to handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms
- Stand, walk, stoop, or kneel
- Occasionally lift and/or move items of at least 15-20 pounds
