About The Role

As a Plumber within Housing Operations, you will carry out a wide range of construction and property maintenance tasks across domestic and commercial buildings. Your work will include:

  • Undertaking plumbing repairs, diagnostics, maintenance and installations
  • Carrying out multi‑trade tasks such as tiling, patch plastering, brickwork repairs, minor carpentry, guttering etc
  • Fault finding on site and determining the scope of works quickly and accurately
  • Working independently to complete tasks in a single visit wherever possible
  • Using mobile technology to manage jobs and communicate effectively
  • Maintaining high standards of cleanliness, safety and professionalism
  • Supporting apprentices and trainees through on‑the‑job learning
  • Providing excellent customer service in occupied properties
  • Ensuring compliance with Health & Safety legislation, including asbestos regulations

You’ll work across multiple sites, adapting to varied workloads and helping us deliver a responsive, efficient and reliable maintenance service in both day‑to‑day repairs and void properties.

This role requires someone who can work both independently and as part of a wider operational team.

About You

The following experience and knowledge is a must:

  • A recognised Level 2–3 Plumbing qualification or equivalent
  • At least 3 years’ experience in domestic or commercial construction/maintenance
  • Ability to undertake small tasks in other trades (e.g., plastering, carpentry, tiling)
  • Strong problem‑solving and fault‑finding skills
  • A careful, methodical and accurate approach to work
  • Good fitness level, able to work at height and handle heavy materials
  • Strong awareness of Health & Safety requirements, PPE use and safe working practices
  • Excellent communication skills for working with residents, including vulnerable tenants
  • Ability to use IT and mobile devices for job management
  • A full UK driving licence

As the work is varied a flexible approach is required to meet changing needs and tight deadlines. Excellent customer service skills, enthusiasm, and a ‘can do’ attitude is essential as you’ll be our ambassador when speaking to customers and suppliers. You will work collaboratively with peers and colleagues on a daily basis so professionalism, communication and customer focus will be essential to the role.

Organisational, customer service, time management and high level of competency in using IT systems are key to this role. You will need to be able to remain calm and unflustered when working under pressure and/or faced with confrontation and act as the ‘eyes and ears’ of the Council with regards safeguarding.

You will work a 39‑hour week, and your basic leave entitlement is 26 days annual leave per year (not including bank holidays), with an additional 12 days TOIL [Time Off in Lieu] giving a total balance of 38 days leave. The basic leave level of 26 days leave increases to 29 days after you have completed 5 years of continuous service.
