Role SummaryThe main objective of this role is to assist with the operations of the store and support the store manager to achieve strategic short and long‑term goals. The role assumes store accountability for sales, service, profitability and loss prevention, and aims to foster a community that inspires the Urban Outfitters customer. The successful candidate will provide appropriate feedback and guidance to execute a high rate of succession and employee development, participate in building community relationships that reflect Urban culture, and uphold the Urban Outfitters "Peers Teaching Peers" philosophy.
WhatYou'll Be Doing
- Oversee a large team
- Recruit, train and develop managers to increase day‑to‑day productivity of the business
- Assist with the development of Department Managers for future growth of the business
- Manage aspects of performance development (Performance Appraisals, Individual Development Plans, Coaching, Counselling and Disciplinary actions) for a productive workforce
- Uphold company standards and act as a positive role model
- Ensure Department Managers conduct productive daily and department meetings
- Model a shared vision for the store team
- Assist and participate in the roll‑out of new training and operational initiatives
- Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Coach management to lead senior and junior customer service teams, setting daily goals and creating a positive store environment
- Exhibit excellent floor presence by training the team on customer service, standards, product placement and time management
- Achieve company‑average mystery shop results through team guidance on customer service standards
- Conduct walkthroughs with the Visual Merchandising Manager and Department Managers to provide constructive feedback and attainable goals
- Guide the team to perform all store‑level operational procedures accurately and on time, in line with company policies
- Achieve store stock loss goals by training loss‑prevention awareness and overseeing adherence to loss‑prevention practices; participate in a functional shipment processing system to keep the sales floor fully stocked
- Possess excellent organisational skills and the ability to plan, organise and execute projects by priority
- Assist in upholding health & safety procedures at all times for employee and customer safety
- Facilitate communication between management and the creative team to enhance the store environment and efficiently execute merchandising projects
- Coach others to understand and interpret current fashion trends in local markets to generate creative solutions
- Ensure floor sets are well organised, scheduled and cleaned, and completed on time
- Assist the Store Manager to maximise store sales through analytical and creative management of merchandise from receipt to sales
- Demonstrate understanding of store profitability and guide team members to use company reports to react to trends and drive business
- Stay abreast of current trends and maintain a sound knowledge of customer profiles through media and local community influences
- Manage stock levels appropriately using relevant reports and market trends
- Demonstrate entrepreneurial skills to achieve and exceed store targets
- Experience in a management role working in a fast‑paced, high‑volume fashion retail environment
- Uphold excellent VIBE and a service‑orientated culture
- Ability to positively impact sales, payroll and stock‑loss statistical results
- Proven record of developing talented individuals at Department Manager level
- Demonstrated ability to identify problems and implement creative solutions (back‑of‑house, scheduling, organisation)
