Southampton Children's Hospital is looking for highly motivated, dedicated registered nurses to join our friendly, supportive nursing team on E1 Ocean Ward, a highly specialised regional paediatric cardiac ward. E1 is a 16 bedded regional cardiac unit with 6 High Dependency Cardiac beds. The ward cares for children from birth to 18 and supports their families with a range of cardiac conditions and those requiring cardiac surgery.
E1 accepts tertiary referrals from across the Thames and Wessex network.
The ward has an excellent educational team and a full programme available to develop your clinical experience with the opportunity to obtain specific cardiac skills to develop your career further.

Job responsibilitiesWe are looking for enthusiastic nurses to join our team, and can be flexible with shift patterns to suit you.
What you’ll do
- Provide a high standard of specialist, individualised nursing care.
- Communicate effectively with a multi‑disciplinary team at UHS.
- Maintain accurate records of observation, treatment and patient/family care.
What we’re looking for
- Evidence of ongoing professional development.
- Good written and oral communication skills.
- Awareness of evidence‑based practice.
- Mentorship experience.
Flexibility to work the full range of shifts within a 24‑hour shift pattern is essential and previous experience as a qualified nurse in a paediatric or neonatal environment is desired but not essential.
Person specification Qualifications, knowledge and experience- Qualified Nurse (Degree/Diploma).
- Registered nurse on appropriate part of the register.
- Knowledge of current issues within the acute Health Service.
- Understanding of personal accountability.
- Knowledge of own role within the team.
- Evidence of teaching and supporting learners in practice in the role of practice supervisor.
- Awareness of evidence‑based practice.
- Awareness of responsibilities for management of infection control.
- Evidence of ongoing personal development.
- Able to use initiative.
Evidence of recent study. - Previous experience/qualification in relevant specialty.
- Teaching experience.
