Field Service Engineer

Delivering cutting edge technology and direct support to the front line, our Field Service Engineers are so much more. The Naval Communications Messaging and Support teams are looking for a Naval Communications Support Engineer to join us in Southampton. The team is looking for a driven individual capable of working independently as well as integrating into a close‑knit team. The role would be split between Southampton and customer locations.

• Support product development and in‑service support
• Have responsibility for integration, test and acceptance
• Design support solutions including key documentation
• Provide field support at customer locations (UK and abroad)
• Remotely support deployed units

• Naval Communications systems, including external and internal comms
• Operator or maintainer experience in warships or submarines
• Familiarity with the following
  • System networking technology
  • RF bearing equipment
  • Cryptography
  • Message handling systems such as MPS
    2000
  • Diagnostics and rectification of communications systems
  • Technical documentation and report writing
• Previous experience within a defence environment

• HNC or equivalent relevant experience

• Field service engineering work would often be expected to be off‑site, requiring travel
• A full driving licence
• Due to the nature of our team, a full medical would be required for potential deployment to military platforms
• Advanced MS Office skills essential, MS Word skills with advanced knowledge of styles and formatting, paragraph numbering, creation of linked PDFs. Good graphical skills using PowerPoint or Visio.

This role is subject to pre‑employment screening in line with the UK Government’s Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS). An additional range of Personnel Security Controls referred to as National Security Vetting (NSV) may apply, this could include meeting the eligibility requirements for the Security Check (SC) or Developed Vetting (DV).
