The successful applicant will be responsible for publication of procedures and investigation reports, supporting a multi‑disciplinary team of office staff and inspectors responsible for investigating a wide range of marine incidents, both in the UK and worldwide.
Top Responsibilities- Oversee the publications team activities, ensuring delivery of agreed targets and standards for accident investigation reports.
- Ensure MAIB’s online presence and public profile is kept up‑to‑date, and that content is published appropriately for each medium and improves any accessibility requirements.
- Coordinate the delivery of publication work outside of the routine scope, including any promotional material or in‑house documentation, prioritising requests.
- Oversee work within the publications team and work alongside senior leaders within the branch, across the three Accident Investigation Branches and wider DfT to provide and maintain efficient workflows.

To be successful in this role you will need to have the following experience:
- Highly motivated and confident, able to work under pressure as part of a team and independently, ensuring all MAIB publication outputs are produced to a high standard, on time and in the most appropriate format.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of producing accurate and clear written reports to challenging deadlines and having good presentation skills.
- Highly experienced with a background specifically in publications, report production and online content including social media and other platforms.
- Awareness of emerging technologies, including AI and automation tools, and their potential application in publication workflows within government‑approved frameworks; knowledge of Civil Service or Department for Transport procedures, policy approvals and publication governance processes.
- Due to the nature of MAIB operations, you may be exposed to information, recordings and material of a sensitive or potentially distressing nature.
