Fair Ways is a leading children’s services charity based in the Solent, delivering Fostering, Education, Residential and Family services. We care for over 400 children, families, young people and vulnerable adults each year. Our values sit at the heart of everything we do; we measure our success by the difference we make, not profit.

Role location and schedule

This role is based in Southampton. The position is 37.5 hours per week, full-time, on a rolling rota following a 2 on / 4 off shift pattern including sleep-ins.

Responsibilities
  • Rewarding Connections:
Utilise your excellent communication skills to understand and connect with young individuals. Collaborate closely with our team to address significant issues and provide the support they need to thrive.
  • Inspiring Growth:
Use a variety of approaches, including social life skills, therapeutic activities, and effective role modelling, to guide and mentor young adults beyond surface behaviours.
  • Being part of a supportive Team:
Join a team of dedicated professionals who share a common goal of caring for and supporting each resident, creating a nurturing environment where young people can flourish.
  • Providing Individualised Care:
Be at the heart of care plans, focusing on personal development and well-being. Offer guidance in areas such as nutrition, medical needs, hygiene, and help them explore work placements, education, and personal interests.
  • Fostering Independence:
Empower residents to become more self-reliant by supporting them in daily tasks within a home setting and aiding their transition to independent living.
  • Building respectful, impactful relationships:
Act as a key worker, liaising with professionals and external agencies to ensure comprehensive support. Manage administrative tasks, including accurate record-keeping and reporting.
  • Being a Trauma-Informed professional:
Apply industry-recognised RiiSE training to deliver trauma-informed responses, using therapeutic approaches and, where appropriate, physical intervention to support children during times of crisis.
Requirements

All candidates must have a full driving licence and access to the use of a car; each home will have unit vehicles as a first option. Successful candidates will be required to provide an enhanced Disclosure (DBS). This disclosure cost will be met by Fair Ways.

Desirable (not essential)

While experience and qualifications can be valuable, we value candidates from diverse backgrounds who share our core values. Our in-house training and development team supports growth:
