Overview

Who are Fair Ways and what do we stand for?
At Fair Ways we believe in making a difference through passionate care, support and education. Together we aim to build an institution that makes a difference to society and leaves a legacy greater than ourselves and our contributions. Our values sit at the heart of everything we do; we measure our wealth by the difference we make, rather than the profit we make.

Fair Ways is a leading children’s services charity based in the Solent, delivering Fostering, Education, Residential and Family services and cares for over 400 children, families, young people and vulnerable adults each year.

Where and when do we need you?

The Family Centre is made up of 5 self-contained flats each with their own bathroom and kitchen facilities. Families will be referred to the Family Centre if there have been concerns identified around the safety of the children in the family unit in their current family home. Once with us, the families will be continuously encouraged, assessed and guided through a 12 week stay where they are monitored 24/7 to encourage sustainable positive parenting changes.

Responsibilities
  • Planning and preparation - Co-ordinating and planning shifts nightly to ensure safeguarding is prioritised. Prioritising effectively across a range of demands, managing and adapting to change.
  • Keeping vulnerable people safe - Observe, assess and monitor the health, development and emotional well-being of parents and children, promoting high standards of physical care, hygiene and safety to provide education and guidance for families supporting the best possible outcome from their parenting assessment.
  • Dotting the I's and crossing the T's - Complete nightly tasks consistent with the smooth running of the centre, such as handover, case recording, risk assessments, ensuring all information is recorded accurately.
  • Making a house a home - Contribute to housekeeping and administration duties including cleaning and general household upkeep to maintain a welcoming environment for the families in our care.
  • Teamwork makes the dream work - Work as part of a well‑skilled, compact, specialist workforce with strong support and development.
  • Developing your skills - Commit to growth and development within your role including undertaking our industry recognised RiiSE training specialising in trauma-informed responses to support individuals during times of crisis.

The working pattern will be 10 hours per night between 21:30 and 07:30 as part of a 4-on/4-off rolling rota including weekends. Over the course of the year, along with additional team meetings and training, these hours equate to an average 37.5 hour working week as per the stated salary.

Requirements

All candidates must have a full driving license and have access to the use of a car. Successful candidates will be required to provide an enhanced Disclosure (DBS). This disclosure cost will be met by Fair Ways. Fair Ways are unable to provide visa sponsorship for this role and all applicants will need to be able to provide evidence of right to work in the UK.

Desirable

(but not essential)

While we value the knowledge and understanding that experience and qualifications can bring, we also know that some of our best people come from unrelated backgrounds. These people already hold our core values at heart, and with the dedication of our in-house training and development team, we have supported the rest.
