We are recruiting enthusiastic, reliable, highly motivated diagnostic radiographers to join our large, friendly team s vacancy is an ideal opportunity for summer 2026 graduate radiographers looking to develop exceptional imaging skills in a proactive, supportive department. The proposed start date is Summer 2026.
University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust, a Major Trauma Centre and busy teaching hospital, is one of the few places in the south of England to offer both adult and paediatric full onsite major trauma care provision. The Main Radiology Department is an ideal place to gain skills in general and trauma radiography. We offer an excellent year-long preceptorship process to support your development, as well as a guaranteed rostered CPD day.
You will have opportunities to progress within the department and the wider imaging team. Recent secondment opportunities have included nuclear medicine, cardiothoracic imaging, and children's imaging. Development opportunities include CT rotational post, Interventional Radiology, Lithotripsy, Advanced Practice – Reporting and Barium Swallows.

What you’ll doThe successful candidate will rotate through all areas of the department as outlined below. You will adopt a patient-centred approach and be part of the team providing imaging for all patient groups. Ability to participate in the full shift roster which covers 24-hour diagnostic radiography services 365 days per year is essential.
- Main X-ray: general, fluoroscopy and mobile radiography for adult in-patients and out-patients. Facilities include 5 DR X-ray rooms, 2 state-of-the-art digital fluoroscopy rooms, and a fleet of DR mobiles. There is also a Xograph DR Dental Imaging room.
- Emergency X-ray: adult and paediatric trauma radiography for the Emergency Department and Major Trauma Centre plus emergency and general theatre imaging. Includes 3 DR x-ray rooms, DR mobiles and a fleet of up-to-date image intensifiers for a wide range of imaging procedures.
- Interventional Radiology: dedicated unit carrying out vascular, non-vascular and oncology procedures in 2 Siemens interventional labs and a Hybrid Lab. The unit is the cancer centre and major vascular hub within the region.
- Royal South Hants X-ray: satellite unit near the city centre providing imaging for adult outpatient clinics and GP referrals with 4 DR x-ray rooms.
Patient-focused, proactive and ideally with NHS experience. We welcome applicants who hold a BSc or equivalent in Diagnostic Radiography, are HCPC registered and eligible to work in the United Kingdom. Applications are welcomed from current 3rd year BSc Diagnostic Radiography students.
Interviews may be conducted over multiple days.
