Financial Controller
Marina Developments Ltd (MDL Marinas) is the UK’s leading marina operator. We are looking for a Financial Controller to join our finance team based at The Yacht Club. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in supporting our customers and driving the success of our marinas.
Responsibilities- Responsible and accountable for the day‑to‑day operational finance of MDL’s business operations, ensuring key controls are maintained throughout the business.
- Oversee, design and manage the workflows of the finance team to ensure deadlines, both internal and statutory, are met on time.
- Support the line manager with the maintenance of external relationships (e.g., accountants and advisors, banks, HMRC, lawyers, etc.).
- Manage the finance team including one‑to‑ones, PDRs, objective setting and performance management.
- Ensure that the financial system (Net Suite) is properly integrated with the CRM systems used by other departments within MDL and implement necessary controls to maintain accuracy of ledgers.
- Manage the production of year‑end statutory accounts and auditing.
- Draft corporation tax packs for review and submission to tax advisors during the statutory accounts process.
- Be fully accountable for monthly and annual reports and KPIs to identify results, trends and financial forecasts, ensuring that they are accurate and delivered on time.
- Take responsibility for the creation of annual budgets and forecasts and reporting on them.
- Oversee service charge accounting to ensure tenant recharges are accurate and complete, with efficient processes in place for charging tenants and collecting cash.
- Manage financial requirements of management companies and lease berth holders, including preparation of the monthly cost allocations and recharges to/from the management companies, annual statutory and service charge audits, turnover certificates and other reporting.
- Prepare site valuation models for review.
- Complete any additional tasks or projects as required by the Directors.
- Exceptional ability to analyse complex data, identify trends, and solve financial challenges.
- Strong leadership, team management, delegation, and conflict resolution skills.
- Clear, precise verbal and written communication to influence stakeholders at all levels.
- Attention to detail: meticulous accuracy and thoroughness in all financial reporting and processes.
- Strong understanding of overall business operations, strategy, and commercial awareness.
- Technical proficiency: expertise in accounting software, ERP systems, and advanced Excel.
- Time management: ability to prioritise tasks and work effectively under pressure and tight deadlines.
