Take Ownership of Mechanical Design on Diverse Projects
An established and growing MEP consultancy on the South Coast is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join their friendly, technically focused team in Southampton. This is a fantastic opportunity for an engineer with a few years of consultancy experience to step into greater project ownership while being supported by senior mentors and a structured career development path.
You’ll work across healthcare, education, commercial, and research sectors, contributing to technically sound, sustainable building services solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver mechanical building services designs including HVAC, ventilation, heating, cooling, and domestic water systems
Produce calculations, specifications, reports, and technical drawings using design software
Coordinate designs with internal electrical, sustainability, and BIM teams for fully integrated MEP solutions
Contribute to sustainable and low-carbon strategies across mechanical systems
Attend client and design team meetings and actively contribute to technical discussions
Conduct site visits and surveys to gather technical data
Ensure designs meet UK building regulations, CIBSE guides, and client requirements
Support and mentor junior staff while collaborating with senior engineers on project delivery
Candidate Requirements
Degree or HND/HNC in Mechanical or Building Services Engineering (BEng, MEng, or equivalent)
2–5 years’ experience in mechanical design within a building services consultancy
Proficient in mechanical design software (Hevacomp, IES, Revit, AutoCAD, etc.)
Strong understanding of HVAC systems, plantroom layouts, pipework, ductwork, and energy efficiency principles
Knowledge of UK building regulations and CIBSE best practices
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
Proactive, organised, and detail-focused approach
Ambitious and motivated to develop professionally – working towards chartership supported
