Position: Generator Engineer (CHP)

Position Overview

As a field service engineer in the EP Team you will be tasked with responding to customer field repair and service requests, diagnosing and providing comprehensive details about the nature of the problem to the customer and Finning to create a quote as per the request of the customer within a cost and time‑effective manner. Working within Finning’s industry‑leading field service department for the largest CAT dealer in the UK and Ireland, you will be at the forefront of the company’s on‑site diagnostic and repair capabilities for Caterpillar products such as maintenance and repair of diesel and gas‑powered generators.

Major Job Functions
  • Provide an estimate of arrival time at customer’s site based on branch instructions.
  • Contact customer site management to register arrival and ensure knowledge of customer procedures.
  • Diagnose likely cause of reported equipment problems, provide comprehensive details for Finning to construct a quote.
  • Identify parts required, requisition parts, determine expected delivery time to agree on revisit.
  • Undertake repair and service work, removing and dispatching components for specialist attention, reinstalling originals or replacements to bring machine to required standards.

Accountability
  • Undertake local site risk assessment prior to service work.
  • Prepare appropriate method statement in line with standard procedures, or discuss rectification with customer/Finning supervisor.
  • Inspect and test completed machine to ensure operating to expected performance; report further defects.
  • Finish service reports and warranty documentation to enable correct charging.
  • Ensure compliance with all health and safety policies and procedures.
Education And Experience
  • LDV driving licence.
  • Formally apprenticed, trained (NVQ Level
    3) and served as an engineer in a relevant industry (electric power, power generation, marine).
  • Experience with a variety of heavy diesel and gas‑powered power generation equipment essential.
