Main DutiesAn exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and committed theatre practitioner to work as part of the Southampton General Theatre Education Team, focusing on developing, delivering, and managing education across the theatre department. The Theatre Educator will be primarily responsible for teaching and educating all staff and learners within the theatre care group, including our wards and pre‑assessment areas.
As Theatre Educator, you must have excellent knowledge of practice education and current perioperative practice. You must be an experienced mentor, supervisor, or assessor, supporting students/trainees in practice and ensuring their learning objectives are met. The role also includes supporting theatre staff in mandatory and essential training and organising and facilitating medical device training and clinical skills assessments within the education team.
Excellent communication and IT skills are essential. The successful candidate must demonstrate the ability to initiate and sustain new and innovative ways of working that facilitate developments in theatre practice.
You must be an Operating Department Practitioner registered with the Health Professions Council (HCPC) or an NMC registered Nurse (Adult). Theatre experience is essential.
About The Team- Monday‑Friday, usually 8‑6 shifts, with possible 12‑9 shifts clinically when required
- Based in the theatres at UHS, but required to deliver training elsewhere at SGH and Lymington Hospital
- Theatres have approx. 700 staff, spread over 44 theatres, and multiple sites and complexes
- Currently the team has 10 staff members that all look after different work streams and learners
- We are looking for a dynamic individual who will continue to drive forward our education agendas, with the flexibility to develop new educational streams

Person Specification Qualifications, Knowledge and ExperienceEssential Criteria
- Professional requirements e.g. Registered Nurse or Registered Professional or Non‑registered support worker etc.
- Professional knowledge acquired through degree education or equivalent experience
- Mentoring / coaching / education qualification to postgraduate diploma level or equivalent evidence of supporting learners in practice.
- Evidence of ongoing professional development
- Significant experience within relevant field
- Experience of educating others in a formal or informal setting
- Broad awareness of Trust initiatives/pressures
- Education at a master's degree level
- Further education at a master's degree level in relevant practice area
- Leadership qualification or significant equivalent experience
- Previous Band 6 experience
