Job Advert Summary
The National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) is recruiting experienced and professional aquatic safety staff to support the Club Med Tinley Manor Lifeguarding Operation. This flagship project delivers world-class water safety within a premium international resort environment and offers candidates the opportunity to work within a structured, high-performance safety operation.
The Lifeguard will deliver frontline aquatic safety services across designated beaches, open water environments (including dams and lagoons), and swimming pool facilities. The role involves active prevention, continuous surveillance, public engagement, and the execution of professional rescue and emergency response procedures to ensure the safety of all water users.
This is a fixed-term contract position commencing on 30 June 2026 and concluding on 30 June 2027
. The Lifeguard will report directly to the Senior Lifeguard / Shift Supervisor and will be remunerated at an hourly rate of R93.75 per hour.
All Lifeguards must meet the following minimum operational standards:
- Minimum Grade 12 (NQF4 ) or equivalent (Grade 10 with relevant aquatic safety experience may be considered for pool/open water deployment)
- Valid NSRI-recognised Lifeguard Qualification (Surf, Open Water or Pool Lifeguard Award as applicable) with current retest where required
- Valid First Aid NQF 2 Certificate (minimum NQF 1 accepted for pool deployment, NQF 2 preferred across all environments)
- Valid CPR and AED certification
- Physically fit and able to meet NSRI operational swim and rescue standards
- Successful completion of NSRI physical and competency assessments
- Willingness to work weekends, public holidays and rotational shifts
- Clear criminal record
- Language and Communication Requirement
- Candidates must be able to communicate clearly and professionally in spoken and written English. This role operates within an international resort environment where English is the primary operational, guest-facing and emergency communication language.
Lifeguards operating across beach, open water and pool environments will be responsible for:
Prevention and Surveillance
- Establishing and maintaining safe swimming zones and hazard markers (where applicable)
- Conducting continuous patron surveillance and risk monitoring
- Proactively engaging with guests to promote safe aquatic behaviour
- Enforcing safety rules and resort risk management controls
Emergency Response
- Performing water rescues and casualty recoveries
- Delivering first aid, CPR and AED interventions
- Managing emergency scenes until handover to EMS where required
- Participating in rescue swimmer crewing of rescue craft (where operationally assigned), including launch and recovery support
Operational Readiness
- Maintaining rescue equipment, medical kits and patrol readiness
- Conducting daily safety inspections of assigned areas
- Monitoring environmental hazards, crowd density and weather conditions
- Completing operational logs, incident reports and post-incident debriefs
Professional Conduct
- Maintaining high standards of appearance and behaviour in a resort environment
- Providing professional guest interaction and customer service
- Representing NSRI values and operational professionalism at all times
