Job Advert Summary

The National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) is recruiting experienced and professional aquatic safety staff to support the Club Med Tinley Manor Lifeguarding Operation. This flagship project delivers world-class water safety within a premium international resort environment and offers candidates the opportunity to work within a structured, high-performance safety operation. The Squad Leader will be responsible for leading daily patrol operations, supervising lifeguard teams, and ensuring the delivery of a safe, efficient, and professional aquatic safety service.

This is a fixed-term contract position commencing on 30 June 2026 and concluding on 30 June 2027. The successful candidate will earn an hourly rate of R111.25 and will report directly to the Lifeguard Site Manager.

Minimum Requirements
  • Grade 12 (NQF
    4) or equivalent
  • Minimum 3 years professional surf or aquatic lifeguard experience
  • Valid Surf Lifeguard / Rescue Swimmer Award with current retest
  • Valid First Aid Level 3 Certificate (or equivalent)
  • Successful completion of NSRI physical assessment
  • Clear criminal record
  • Strong leadership, communication and decision-making skills
  • Candidates must be able to communicate clearly and professionally in spoken and written English. This role operates in an international resort environment where English is the primary operational and emergency communication language.
Advantageous
  • Supervisory or leadership certification
  • Code EB Driver’s Licence
  • Category E skippers Licence/ IRB driver Certificate (with Surf launch endorsement) / Class IV Coxswain License
  • Previous resort, municipal or high-volume public safety experience
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Senior Lifeguards will oversee daily operations within designated aquatic zones, ensuring:
  • Safe staffing levels and shift coverage
  • High operational readiness of teams
  • Equipment compliance and readiness
  • Professional guest interaction and safety messaging
  • Incident command and reporting
  • Staff performance monitoring and mentorship
  • Compliance with NSRI, Club Med and safety legislation standards
