COMMERCIAL AGRICULTURAL/HORTICULTURAL EXTENSION OFFICER

English & Afrikaans speaking BSc Agric(Horticulture/Crop Sc);
Comp Lit/Excel. 3-5 Yrs proven exp. as Horticultural Extension Officer with a commercial agribusiness growing/processing edible nightshades , i.e. tomatoes/eggplant/peppers/chillies/potatoes. Must be energetic/hard working/committed/able to work independently/stick to deadlines/excellent planning/ interpersonal/problem solving/feedback/report writing skills/ proficient at agricultural practises/ knowledge on the cultivation of edible nightshades/committed to quality/providing a service to farmers.

Conclude seasonal requirements with Agric Mngr/plan seasons/cultivars/ volumes/ preparation/planting based on orders/historic sales/consult with nurseries on seedlings. Report progress on farmer recruitment/production/complaints to Agric Manager. Organise grower meetings/study groups/share operational info/tech advice/compliance updates with farmers/ advise growers on land preparation/fertilizer/ chemical spray programs/planting/ irrigation/ harvesting/packaging/ transport/promote compliance to company Growers Manual/ certification standards. Schedule/conduct farm visits/provide technical guidance/monitor/document crop progress/ensure growers follow technical/safety standards/ handle grower concerns/ complaints/ enquiries/report weekly to Agric Manager.
